My design principles:
  • I believe in fast, safe iteration. Early experimentation and speed are at the backbone of my design process and my background in highly regulated industries ensures I do so in a protected, conscientious, and effective way. Moving quickly while engaging users throughout the process can be challenging in regulated industries but I’ve learned to tap into my creativity to make things happen!
  • I believe a great user experience means a product provides real value to the user, is easy to adopt and use, and results in positive, evidence-based outcomes. However, designing such a product can be really challenging in complex ecosystems, such as healthcare where solutions may span software, hardware, and service design. This complexity requires me to empathize with different user groups and collaborate with diverse, cross-functional stakeholders who often have differing perceptions of design. There’s never a dull moment!
  • I believe UX is a foundational element and that designers are a critical part of the core, cross-functional team defining product strategy in the earliest stages of development. I make it a personal mission to partner closely with Product to uncover user needs before the development cycle begins and continue testing solutions with users throughout the development cycle.

My design superpowers:
  • Driving alignment and commitment to design decisions across peers and stakeholders to deliver tangible results. A pragmatist to my core, I know how to get the right people in the right room, involve them in the decision making process to create buy-in, and keep people focused on what it is we're trying to accomplish to bring a solution over the line. In other words - I like to get things done!
  • Leveraging self-awareness to maximize my personal impact across the team. I know how to steer emotions towards positivity and disarm conflict through empathy and active listening. By intentionally fostering an atmosphere of self-awareness, personal growth, humility, respect, and assistance, I transform empathy into decision-making that pushes us closer to our objectives.
  • Growing other designers. I consistently identify opportunities to involve junior designers in projects that I feel will help them tap into their strengths. I feel comfortable transferring my knowledge and choosing the most effective modality to do so (this also helps me solidify my own design knowledge!). Outside the office you’ll find me mentoring through AIGA, ADPList, and informally to others in my network.
